Losing DHCP Gateway

This problem started with 17.5.0 GA.  The firewall is handling DHCP for my lan.  Users have started to lose the default gateway(the Firewall) randomly throughout the day.  I have to either reset the switch or the desktop network adapter in order to regain internet connectivity.  This does NOT happen to all users at the same time.

I updated to XG 115 SFOS 17.5.5 MR5 but the problem still exists.  This actually introduced another problem of not being able to access the gui from Sophos Central, but that's not as pressing.  Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Thanks

Larnel

  • So far I have not had a dhcp or internet problem since changing dhcp to the "old" method.

  • Maybe i can tell more about this issue.

It seems like, in special race conditions, XG is not able to generate for a Client the correct Gateway / DNS Server and only provides a IP.

The new mode is designed to get "faster and reliable" DHCP Servers in XG.

It seems like, smaller Appliances are struggling with this mode, as far as i can tell.

Observed this issue only on smaller Appliances / networks.

Maybe you guys can actually post your Appliances, you observed this issue.

    Please (Plus XG Home)

  • Hello Lucar

    I am using X210rev3 and XG105.

XG105 have not failed yet and they provide DHCP services all over.

XG210s provides DHCP only in subnet without Microsoft Active Directory.

Yesterday I had the problem in a DMZ zone (& subnet).  Only a single device connected there, but with a 100 base-T ethernet controller.  It is a stamp printer for envelops.  Curiously, this machine is brand new, yet 100 base-t.  I unplugged that stamp printer.  Then plugged a laptop in there.  But it would not catch an IP address.

That DHCP problem happened to us only on subnet where machines are not homogenous and/or old.  Our main subnet as all PC with the exact same motherboard (and exact same Intel network adapter), and two modern printers.
