SFOS 17.5.4 MR-4-1 Legacy Email - Notifications not sent - authentication issue?

I have the system set in 'Legacy' mode for email. But do not have any active email firewall rules. This worked well in the previous version. I did not email inspection, and the notifications worked fine.

After upgrading to SFOS 17.5.4 MR-4-1 the weekly notification and config back-ups were no longer being successfully sent.Checking the email log found them listed as 'Email has been accepted by Device and queued for scanning.' And there they sat.

The big problem was that the system was apparently continuously trying to send them, and had some type of authentication issue with my hosting providers SMTP server. This resulted in my IP getting greylisted!

I'll rolled back to the previous version, and all is now well.

  • Hello guys,

Same problem occurring here. Firmware: 17.5.5 using external e-mail.

In the logs we see the following entries: "remote host address is the local host"

Changing to IP address causes the send to work again.

    Kindly regards.

  • Hi All,

and  Would it be possible to please raise a support case referencing the related ID (NC-46145) and PM me with your case numbers for tracking purposes?

    Thanks!

  • Hi , and

I've been able to resolve this issue in version 17.5.5 by making two changes, highlighted in green below.

Go to; System > Administration > Notification Settings.

    1. Send Notifications via: 'External email server'
    2. Mail serverIPv4....: 'Use IP address of mail server', and NOT FQDN
    3. Port: '465'
    4. Authentication required: 'Checked'
    5. Password: 'Used 8 character, Alpha Numeric password'. Longer password my get corrupted in exim config file.
    6. Connection security: 'SSL/TLS'
    7. Certificate: 'ApplianceCertificate'

With this configuration I am able to send test notifications, and send backup config files.

    Good luck !
