Why doesn't my DMZ recognise my DNS Host Entry?

I have a DMZ setup on subnet 192.168.140.0/24

I have a LAN setup on subnet 10.90.140.0/24

The XG Firewall is running DHCP for the DMZ, using itself as the Gateway and DNS.

There is one server on the LAN that I need to access from the DMZ. I have setup the firewall etc, and can access the server through it's IP address, 10.90.40.41

I have created a DNS Host Entry for the server in the XG Firewall, but if I try to access the server by name in the DMZ, it doesn't work.

What am I missing here?

  • Hi,

best I can see from you posts or not see as in this case is how does your PC find the  FQDN resolution, eg what DNS do you LAN devices use?

You need to have t her XG  as part of your DNS data flow.

  • That helped a bit, I wasn't using the XG as the DNS server exclusively. I was just checking the box to use the devices DNS

By setting the DNS to the DMZ IP of the XG as the primary DNS server, it is now resolving the address...but still not giving me the results I need.

If I do an nslookup, I get the right address

If I do a ping, it returns the public IP address
