Why Sophos do not have an email alert mechanism for admin logins to the appliance?

Many other vendors have the option to send email alert when an admin login to the appliance (FWs) but unfortunately, Sophos haven't implemented this yet. I believe this is a very crucial security feature they should come with at the earliest.

  • Hi LuCar,

I reviewed all those settings but could not find anywhere that indicated an Admin had logged in. I changed my settings and logged out then back in and did not receive a notification. Hence my suggestion to add the request in the features forum.

Rechecking for the settings I have obviously missed. I failed a login and did not receive a mail message. Yes, I have tested the send mail function.

  • Further testing results.

I restarted my XG from the GUI and received the normal external network interfaces have come up, nothing about the XG being restarted.

More testing - looks like the notification emails might not like using the external mail server even though the daily reports and the test mail do. If I look at the mail report I see there is 10 messages sent, but I only received 1. Also there is an unknown mail source.

  • Hi,

strange result. Some messages eventually were scanned and delivered, but took days, others in minutes.

I changed the mail server settings in the XG notifications from STARTTLS to SSL/TLS and now all messages are flowing after being scanned.
