Hotspot logs

Hi,

How can I capture hotspot activity? We have a "Terms of use" landing page (no username/password/etc) but nothing is logged when a user accepts the terms so we have visibility to the number of users using this service.

The best I can get out of the logging appears to be that I can see when a DHCP lease is given, but that only tells me that a device connected to the wifi, not that someone accepted the terms of use.

Thanks

James

  • Hi James,

You can create a separate wireless network for HotSpot users with its own unique IP range configured on DHCP and track it that way.

Since there's no authentication, then it would have to be tracked via IP addresses. But you can at least know the amount of users using HotSpot (and differentiate from other wireless users) and even implement Web Filter policies, IPS, etc.

    Best,

    Karlos

  • Hotspot can't share a network with anything so it's already on its own network. I'm already tracking via DHCP, i was just hoping for something better.

DHCP tells me that the user connected to the SSID and got an IP address, but doesn't tell me if the user accepted the terms of use, which is what I need to know.

    Thanks

    James

  • Hello James,

Could you please check the reports under location > Reports> Compliance >Events >Authentication Events?
