Office 365 Relay

Hi there,

i have a question about the best practise guid for Office 365 email setup: https://community.sophos.com/kb/en-us/132416

specifically I'm wondering why it is not insecure to insert all Office 365 IPs as accepted networks for relay? How is it protected that not anybody in the Office 365 world could use it as a relay? I'm missing a point where only mails from my domain are accepted or something like that.

Well, I'm sure I'm missing the forest through the trees..., but I would appreciate if someone could explain that.  Thanks a lot! :)

  • You are in fact right about the part, that anybody in O365 could properly use your XG as a Hostbased Relay.

They have to know your IP and that you are a O365 user with this configuration.

I am not quite a fan of this solution and would recommend Central Email instead.

Most likely the better approach because Cloud Solutions are in a better synergy than a on prem solution.
