VM Sizing for a 1 Gbps symetrical line (home edition)

I will soon have a 1Gbps symetrical line at home (4 users and a few VM's in a server)

Are the limitations of 6 GB RAM and 6 Cores a problem? I use IPS, webfiltering and ATP.

Does Sophos have a any plans to increase this values in a future? Maybe 8G RAM and 8 Cores? Home users eventually (3-5-7 years) will get that speeds on their homes and I'm wondering how this will be a problem for those using Sothis XG Home Edition instead other free alternatives.

  • Hi,

the actual values for home users is 6gb and 4 cpus (should be real if you are after performance).

The memory use will depend on how many and how complex your firewall rules are, so 6gb will be useful for some time.

The CPU needs to be a very high speed to give maximum throughput. If you look at some of the specifications for the XG hardware you will see that they use Atom based processors on devices with high line speeds.
