Best way to implement temporary website access to users when they need it?

Hi everyone,

We have a web filter in place, but there are times when users may need to temporarily access a website.  What's the best way to do that?

We have tried creating users so they can log in, but that seems to just redirect them so they can change their own filter settings which is not what we want.

The only other way we've seen is the passcode, but that's not temporary.

Is there something we are missing?

Thanks,

Brandon

  • If you want to rely on your users choosing that they can go there anyway, rather than having a rule "Block" use "Warn".

If you want the admin to decide, use policy overrides.  Or you can change your configuration temporarily.

For example someone says "I need access to xyz.com for today" the admin puts in an Web Exception for Policy for xyz.com.  Then later deletes it.  Or you have a URL group called "Temporary Whitelist" and a rule that says Allow for it.  Then you can add/remove domains from that object.
