Dual WAN Links with BGP Failover.

Hello,

I'm setting up a new XG310 (v17.5.1) in HA (Active-Passive). My ISP has provided dual links and will be setting up BGP (Active-Passive) to fail over the Internet
and MPLS WAN (all coming through the same connection).

Looking at WAN Link Manager, both of my WAN ports are on metric 1 and set as Active. Only Port 2 is green.
I'd prefer to use Port 2 as my primary link as it's the largest @ 50MB.

Port 2 = WAN @ IP:115.30.xxx.7 GW:115.30.xxx.6  [Link:50/50MB]
Port 3 = DMZ @ Dedicated HA Port
Port 7 = WAN @ IP:115.40.xxx.131 GW:115.40.xxx.130    [Link:20/20MB]
Port 4 + Port 8 = LAN @ LAG0 IP:172.16.10.0/24 GW:172.16.10.254

Our ISP required us to obtain a /28 block of IP's so that this could be set-up.
BGP Subnet IP Addresses = 115.50.xxx.224/28

Questions:
1) Do I need to set WAN [Port7] to Backup, or do I just keep everything as Active and let the ISP failover the connection as this is how I have requested they set-up our links?
2) How do I assign the External IP's to both WAN ports in case a fail-over occurs?
I can add the Alias IP to Port 2, but I can't add it to Port 7 as the Alias IP is already in use.

  • Hello Drobo,

You can set everything as active in this case also I would recommend checking this connection are connected to primary using the same interface connecting to secondary via a switch. Since both ISP have different subnets they can be used in the active-active mode in Gateway management.

Make sure the gateway is different from these two ISP connection.
