4G wireless router with Sophos XG

Hi,

I have a 4G wireless router that shipped with a sim card which has data limitation of 500GB. I want to control the bandwidth so it does not consume too much of the bandwidth. I have an XG firewall that can do the control but I do not seem to be able to do configure it properly.

The 4G router that came from ISP does not have an option to be in bridge mode.

At the moment, the 4G wireless router (DHCP on) is the only device I am using.

  • Hello JUNSEOK,

The only restriction you can apply to the firewall is by applying network traffic quota to each user/group. Now here is the limitation, your data plan is 500GB by which your user's traffic, system generated traffic etc will be consuming upload and download data. So you would need to implement authentication strictly and apply users profile data quota as per the allocated bandwidth.

e.g. (500GB per month / no of users in your network) at 10% threshold for system traffic. In a case where you have 100 users, (500*0.9/100)= 4.5GB per user per month.

A good 4G router has threshold restriction on the data plan. So you would not go beyond the current plan.
