FreeDNS (DynDNS like service): No real solution and blocker to migration from competing product.

I have seen a number of post and questions going back years with various members asking for extra providers to be included but nothing seems to have materialized

I have seen some hints that it should be possible but unsupported to hack it, but I have poked about (1) cant work out how to hack the system itself and (2) the one post mentionng spoofing DynDNS name and point it to FreeDNS, but that gave issues as well.

How can I get it working as it's a blocker for me to migrate from a competing product.

Just use a client behind the firewall (can even use wget or curl) to update the service instead of relying on the firewall to do it.

Thanks, I'm aware of doing that, but it's not practical/viable in some scenarios/use cases.

The Sophos own DNS Service is not enough?

Most customer are using this one or DynDNS with a account.

Thanks for the getting back to me.

Yes one could use Sophos or DynDNS (although a number of people, us included have moved away from DynDNS for reasons not relevant here)

But the question still remains, is there no way to do a custom dynamic dns update on the firewall?

Hello Rabie,

By default the update occurs every 10 minutes and interval can be changed on the settings. As far as customization goes, you may use Sophos but the domain will remain as *.myfirewall.co.

Hi Aditya,

Thanks for the update, but it's not quite what I asked:

1) I would like to know if it's possible to adapt the current version of the firewall by logging onto the advanced shell to add additional dynamic dns providers (similar to what you would do with ddclient or other packages)

2) And then if there was a know timeline/expected release date to provide such capability on the XG product set as I do see a number of users have been asking for it over the past couple of years especially seeing as it's in the UTM product, but not in XG and users are expected to migrate if I have read correctly.

I see, at the moment we do not have this feature and no ETA on it. However, we would encourage you to raise a feature request.

Thanks I went and had a look, I see it's been logged as a feature in Nov 2015 already and it's got almost 140 votes already.

Anyway for you to get bumped up the product management as obviously they have missed it.

I see there are a number of other dynamic dns provider requests just search for "dyndns"
