Admin portal randomly becoming extremely slow

I've noticed this for the past several months but it only occurs once in a while. Basically the admin portal will become extremely slow and unusable. For example, I can usually get past the initial login screen but after that, the web UI loads the basic elements but all of the data is just missing (graphs, data, etc.). If I try to access any other page such as the firewall log, it just sits there and will eventually load if I leave it for 10+ minutes (or longer). I've noticed it I just leave it alone and try again in a couple hours, it usually works fine but it will come back again in another couple hours. If I try to access the user portal, that seems to work fine. Internet and network access during this time appears normal as well. The only fix I've found is logging in via SSH and doing a reboot.

This started occurring last night and I haven't rebooted yet. I just tried accessing the admin portal again and same thing, except this time I noticed a service was offline. I clicked the red services icon and after about 10 minutes, it finally loaded and it's showing POPIMAPDaemon status of DEAD.

I'm running Sophos XG Home 17.5 on a Qotom Q335G4.

Edit: Also noticed when I run service -S from the advanced shell, it's showing warren as DEAD. Not sure if that's normal. Tried service warren:restart -ds no sync but I get 503 Service Failed.

top is showing:

top - 20:40:38 up 25 days, 22:24,  1 user,  load average: 2.38, 2.53, 2.68

Tasks: 389 total,   2 running, 385 sleeping,   0 stopped,   2 zombie

Cpu(s):  0.3%us,  0.1%sy,  0.0%ni, 99.3%id,  0.2%wa,  0.0%hi,  0.1%si,  0.0%st

Mem:   3958444k total,  3779444k used,   179000k free,   184524k buffers

Swap:  1563328k total,   548508k used,  1014820k free,   958196k cached

It appears I only have ~180MB free which I'm assuming is the issue. Normally my memory utilization is sitting around 66-69% and I have 4GB of RAM. Not sure how why it's consuming so much right now.

Edit 2: Restarted Sophos XG. This is what top is showing after a restart with everything running:

top - 20:59:34 up 8 min,  1 user,  load average: 3.84, 3.34, 1.76

Tasks: 412 total,   1 running, 411 sleeping,   0 stopped,   0 zombie

Cpu(s): 16.1%us,  0.3%sy,  0.0%ni, 83.4%id,  0.1%wa,  0.0%hi,  0.1%si,  0.0%st

Mem:   3958444k total,  3550444k used,   408000k free,    52564k buffers

Swap:  1563328k total,    18484k used,  1544844k free,   749096k cached

  • Huh... I had exactly the same expirience before christmas. Running my Firewall on Qotom Q335G4 as well. In my case, about 65% of Memory was unused, and CPU-Load at all was below 10%. I didn't investigate any further, just booted Firewall again and everything was fine so far...
