Installation of Sophos XG on Citrix Xenserver including XenServer Tools

Hello,

I am using UTM on a Citrix Xenserver since years for home use and currently testing Sophos XG. UTM included a older version of XenServer Tools but that's OK!

Now I have the following problem/question: What is the recommended way to install XG on Xenserver?

I have tried the software installer (Intel Hardware) and virtual installer for Citrix XenApp (Why is it called XenApp??? XenApp is application virtualization "part" of XenDesktop and has nothing to do with a hypervisor!?)

However, the software installer seems to dedect the XenServer Hardware, but it seems not to insatll XenServer Tools. The virtual installer for XenServer seems to be exported from some VMware host, because the package contains VMDK instead of VHD disk images and the OVF descriptor file contains lots of VMware stuff (e.g. <rasd:ResourceSubType>vmware.usb.ehci</rasd:ResourceSubType>). The important thing is that importing the OVF in XenServer does not include XenServer Tools.

Is there a way to install Sophos XG including Tools?

Thank you very much in advance! :-)

Best regards,

Kurt

  • The point is, i do not have any Xen Server to try this. And most of our home users ether. I know customers using XEN App with XG, but i have no clue, if this is working properly with XenServer Tools.

  • Thank you for your reply, but as already mentioned, XenApp is nothing you can put an XG virtual appliance on:

    • From Wikipedia: XenApp is application virtualization software produced by Citrix Systems that allows Windows applications to be accessed via individual devices from a shared server ...

So if you are talking about a Citrix product which you can import an virtual appliance like XG it's only XenServer.

From my point of view there are two options:

    • There is a typo on the downlod page which missleadingly mentions XenApp instead of XenServer (and linked the wrong download) or
    • There is no support for Citrix hypervisor

    Thank you!
