Sophos XG on NBN FTTN

Using XG Firewalls with either Technicolor TG-789v3 modems (iiNet/Internode-supplied) in bridge mode or Draytek Vigor 130 modems (any ISP) without any problems. Added bonus of being able to create an alias interface on the WAN port to remotely log in to the modem via IP/Web interface and track VDSL stats.

The only docs I can find on a DSL module for the Sophos XG is the SFP DSL module as described here - https://www.sophos.com/en-us/medialibrary/PDFs/documentation/sophos-sfp-dsl-module-mounting-instructions-rev3.pdf

It doesn't look like it supports VDSL Vectoring - G.993.5 - which is a requirement for FTTN connectivity (full NBN VDSL requirements are found on pp.47-51 here - https://www.nbnco.com.au/content/dam/nbnco2/documents/sfaa-wba2-product-catalogue-nebs-product-tech-spec-fttb-fttn_20150904-to-20151102.pdf).

You'd need to contact Sophos to find out if the DSL module meets all the requirements as set out by the NBN in the above document.

I am looking to embark on a similar journey, which is connect to my FTTN connection NCD device using XG on whitebox Intel device.

Do I need the modem, such as a Draytek 130 in Bridging Mode or the currently utilised Telstra Smart Modem gen 2 ?

Can't I just put my Sophos XG in PPPoE mode and hook it up the NCD box ? Cheers

NCD device? Sounds like you've got an FTTC connection (lucky sod :-)).

If so, the NCD is a Netcomm Wireless NDD-0300 unit, which acts as a VDSL modem that also provides power to the DPU out in the street.

In which case you can plug the XG straight into it and use PPPoE (if that's how your RSP is providing your service), but you'll lose the auto-failover to 4G capability of the Telstra Smart Modem for both voice and data.

My XG connects directly to the NCD, the fail over feature was not of much value because it only gave internet not phone. Also XG setup for DHCP.

If I loose NBN I setup hotspot on iphone.
