All WAN ports suddenly offline, no automatic reconnection

Hi,

we have 3 ADSL2 WAN ports, all connected to German Telekom via PPPoE.

This morning all 3 ports went offline almost at the same time (few seconds in between). Log shows "Disconnect PPPoE due to LCP timeout".

An automatic reconnect was not possible: "PADO Packet timeout no response from server. Please verify service name & ISP link status on modem. Restarting session."

The modems showed everything was ok, ADSL was synchronized. Even a restart of the modems didn't change the situation.

Finally I had to terminate the connection on each port manually in XG firewall and then reconnect manually. Ports went online directly.

I've never seen this and wonder if it might be an issue of SFOS 17.5 I installed 3 days ago.

Regards, Jelle

  • Sounds like the issue many have complained about in each release, but Sophos cannot identify the issue. Basically the XG does not see the failure and issue a reconnect sequence.

  • But under "Network" it showed "Connecting..." on all 3 ports and the ports were identified as down...??? So how could this be overseen?

Well, at least I'm happy I'm not the only one and it might not be related to 17.5. And I hope this won't happen too often. Never seen this during the last 10 months I think.

  • Usually occurs if your external link fails for a short time. If the link goes down for a period (I don't know how long) the XG will automatically reconnect.

You could try logging a fault and see what response you get?
