Additional WAN IPs - different subnet

Hi,

We have an ADSL connection (PPPoE) with a single static IP from our internet provider. We have asked for and received an additional /30 range of IPs, but I can't work out how to setup them in XG 115

The ADSL modem is bridge so I have connected another cable from it to Port 3 on the firewall, and have tried to add it in Network - Interfaces but it always shows up as not connected.

Not sure what else to try?

Thanks

  • I think you first need to add those additional IP's as aliases (Add interface -> Alias). Not sure however if you can effectively use all 4 IP's in the /30. You might only be able to use 2 of them (the lowest IP being reserved as "network" address and the highest being reserved as "broadcast" address).

  • I tried that, but then I found out that as they are part of a different subnet that doesn't work. I am trying to setup on Port 3.

  • Hi Chris,

your answer is not very clear, you should be able to add an alias to your WAN interface using any IP address except of the exisiting connection. I just tried on my XG and did not have an issue creating an alias. The problem is I cannot test remote access because I don't have an IP4 address. At the moment I have IP4 and IPv6 on the external interface.

If you can't access your XG using the alias on the external interface check with your ISP that they re routing that range to you. What do you see when you try a trace route from an external site?

  • Hi Rfcat,

Thanks for your reply. I added the alias and it worked! I don't know what I did earlier but when I tried it before it wouldn't resolve. I may have had the wrong subnet on the alias.

    Cheers,
