Experience with SFOS 17.1.4 (MR4)?

Any experience with the latest SFOS 17.1.4 MR4? After all the issues with MR2 and MR3 I hope this one is usable. I didn't install MR2 and MR3 because I didn't want to make things worse on our XG210... Who gave it a try? Has the garner issue been fixed finally? Is everything up and running? Issues with APs and WiFi? Issues with HA?

Thanks

  • 17.1.4 just appeared on the XG as latest firmware.

  • Reported issues with 17.5 have been answered so far and are not related to bugs.

  • SFOS 17.1.4 answered a glitch or two ...  Knowing they release V17.5 yesterday, I wonder why they release MR4 at all ...

I have been running v17.5 beta for a while and updated to v17.5GA Yesterday.

For us, it is stable.  But our setup is simple.  One VPN IKEv2 site to site, and 30 firewall rules for Exchange, other servers, and desktops.  That's it, that's all.

Looking at the list of bug fixes and improvement, V17.5 is apparently a VERY huge bugs fix. Big changes on the MTA.

As long as the STAS is not re-written entirely, lateral movement detection remains a wisdom on XG.

All in all, I would say it is worth spending time investigating XG V17.5GA.  So if you have a chance to test it, go ahead.

I had a problem with my backups.  I believe the best way to do it is "local" then download it via your browser.

So BU before upgrade.  I do it normally twice.  To have two backup files. I've become a depressed paranoiac using Sophos XG.

  • 17.1.4 now isn't reported as latest firmware anymore. Currently "no new firmware available" having installed 17.1.1.

Guess 17.5 will be reported as new firmware somewhere during the day.

  • I just got a new XG450 and I could have 17.0.x or 17.1.4 or 17.5 from the MySophos portal I just upgraded my XG230 to v17.5 and will restore that to my new XG450 Just grab the firmware from the portal and manually kick it in
  • Log into your Sophos licensing portal.

    Click on "Network Protection".

    Click on "View Devices".

Select your appliance then click Download.

    Do a backup.

    Do a backup again.

Check your backup file really exist.

    Be paranoïd.

Upload that firmware file  (for a XG210, it is "HW-17.5.0_GA.SF300-310.gpg") into your appliance using the webconsole.  Menu "Backup & Firmware".

Then click on the very small "blue and up arrow" on the right of the tab "Firmware" menu.

    Upload and reboot.

  • Hi guys,

thanks for that. I only wanted to mention that MR4 wasn't available on the XG anymore.

I updated to 17.5 despite the concerns that I had and it looks good so far.
