Initial SF-OS Install

I know this questions is about Sophos Firewall OS and not the XG firewall however I cannot find an area for the SF-OS.

When installing the SF-OS upon initial boot you are required to activate and etc which requires an internet net connection however they do not have an option in settings to setup PPPoE, so how do I activate and register the device without internet?

  • Unfortunately, at this time, there is no way to register without an internet connection. Is there no other way for you to get a connection going?
  • My internet connection is via PPPoE, (and I'm sure many other people are as well) the only way that I can get internet to it would be to tether my laptop to my phone, then share my internet connection to the firewall.

Seems like a major oversight to not include PPPoE in the initial setup, any plans to add it in?
  • You need an existing internet connection connected to port 2. I assume you have a adsl modem to connect using pppoe, set that up as modem router for the initial installation, connect the XG port using dhcp and away you go.

  • Hello, I am having the same issue.
I have installed the XG Firewall and it is connected to my PPPoE modem (which has a static DHCP allocated address). I have tried putting the WAN interface as DHCP assigned or the static address, but still it says no internet connection is available to register.
  • Hi there,

tomorrow I must replace an old Zyxcel Zywall with XG 85. Without the option to configure PPOE at initial setup I can't do that! Are there any news about this problem?

    regards
