Upgrade not working well

Hi,

I have upgraded my XG software appliance 2 times now, and both times I'm having issues with the process.
The appliance can download an install the firmware with one button click on the firmware page, but this doesn't work at all. It looks like the device downloads, but that's it. After refreshing the page later on (can be after an hour or so, or I'm just logged out) the device comes with the same message again that there is a new version available. I can click the download/install button 10 times, but nothing changes...

When I download the image manually and upload it to the appliance I'm suddenly able to install it and make it boot from it.
Now the following issue occurs, (hardware is a mini hardware appliance without monitor connection) it shuts down, but isn't coming back up, not even after one hour... So, after waiting for quite some time (I don't know what it's doing during the "upgrade" and I don't want to brake it) I give it a hard reset (power off/on) and only then it restarts.

My cable internet provider provides dynamic ip addresses, but as long as the mac address doesn't change, the ip address stays the same too. With my Juniper SRX I had the same ip address for years, even after upgrades/reboots. But now with the XG firewall, when it comes back online after the hard reset and I have an internet connection again, I notice that my public ip has changed, this happens every time after the upgrade.
I must say I haven't tried a normal reboot (without upgrade) yet, but it almost looks like the mac address changes...

Does anybody experience the same strange things as I do?

Thanks!
regards
Erwin.

  • Hi,

I would agree with you on the external interface addressing issue. I had the same IP address for a number of reboots, but after the upgrade I have a new IP4 address. Though I hadn't thought of the possibility of the MAC address changing which would be a bit strange.

I was thinking that maybe the updates change the NIC order, that would explain the change of MAC.

  • Hi,

I'm currently running the latest version of Sophos XG, I cannot really test with that one.

But with the next update I'll try to find out what's going on on that device.

    regards,

    Erwin.
