XG 330 REV.2 WAN Gateway Reports, Down & Up

Hi Everyone,

Are any of you guys/gals having your XG report your external WAN as down or up over and over again ? I have called my ISP to verify everything on their end during the times I got the notifications. They said everything is good and I even had a tech come out and physically check the connection coming in and he said everything was fine as well. (no packets lost either) I'm sure this is some kind of system glitch because when it says its down, I immediately check for internet access and everything is fine. Just this morning I woke up to a slew of emails stating the status was up and down. It happens almost everyday at random times of the day and more when I am not on site of course.

Any suggestions ? Specs/Info below:

XG 330 Rev 2

Firmware: SFOS 17.1.3 MR-3

Max CPU Load: 6%

Max MEM Load: 22%-29%

HA Mode = False

Load Balancing = False

A screenshot of the emails I received recently.

Thanks for reading.

  • Hi,

you need to check what you are using in the WAN link manager as your test site and change it to something more reliable.

  • Hi,

I have no idea what you are talking about. When I go into WAN link manager and I try to change the IP it states, "Gateway IP & interface IP address must be in same network" I cannot change the interface there is no option for that. If you could post detailed instructions on how to change the address, that would be great.

    Thanks.

  • In WAN Link Manager, you can edit the gateway and there you will find something called "Failover rules".

    https://community.sophos.com/kb/en-us/123530

    Configuring failover condition

Upon adding a gateway, Sophos Firewall adds a default failover rule indicating that if it is not able to ping the recently added gateway IP address, then this gateway is considered down.

  • Hi,

That is just the fail over rule section, where if "xxxx" can't ping on "xxxx" switch to another available gateway. I do not see an option to change the address you keep stating and since I do have have a backup gateway, even if I change the gateway IP where you stated it will not let me save it. I know this is software related because I had no issues with the exact same setup when I first got the box. It ran for 8 months with the no issues going up or down.

Its fine I will just ignore the emails.

    Thank you for your help.

  • Hi,

you can disable the notifications if you desire.

If you edit this rule you are able to change the IP address.
