Support for Intel Ethernet Controller (i219, device 15b7)

Hi, I just started testing some hardware I got as dedicated device for Sophos UTM or rather Sophos XG.

I was going to use a Shuttle DH170 with Intel Core i3 as it has two Intel Ethernet Controller already on-board. One is a I211 Gigabit Network Controller, the other a I219. The I211 is recognized by the UTM 9.3, the other is not. Will you be adding support for the I219?

Just found the Sophos XG firmware and tested it - same result. One controller (I211) is recognized, the other (I219) is not.

Cheers, Alex

To update, I have received an answer and there is no specific hardware support on roadmap.

Really? That nonsense answer is all they can come up with? I think they can do better than that. Can we at least get to know a) what Linux kernel version is in MR2 and b) whether the hardware support in MR2 is the same as in UTM 9.4? These are very simple questions and should be easy to answer from whomever you are asking.

  • I too have been disappointed by the lack of driver support for the intel i219. I have an Asrock H170M-ITX board in a little m350 minibox case. After many nights of frustration, I installed VMWare ESXi  onto it and can now use both NICs with Sophos XG. I also have the bonus of installing a couple of other small servers along side it.
One of the other big disappointments is the lack of intel wireless card support with XG (it only detects Sophos Wireless devices).

  • Virtualizing it has a huge impact on performance. I rather wait until XG is using a Linux kernel 3.12 or higher, which has support for the NIC built in. Now if Sophos wouldn't be so arrogant and just let us know if and when that is going to happen....
