How long between disconnecting a device and reconnection time?

I disconnected my MAC from the XG and was expecting the MAC to reconnect shortly after.

It did not reconnect after a short time or even after the MAC was restarted. It did not connect after being off overnight. I tried to connect using the WIFI and that also failed. I could login to the XH though.

The only way I could get an internet connection was to restart the XG, probably should have restarted a service instead.

  • Hey Ian,

For more information, what did you perform to disconnect your Mac device from the XG? Does this behavior also occur to any other devices in your environment?

    Regards,

  • Hi Flo,

I used the disconnect in the GUI Current Activities -> Live Users -> disconnect. I haven't tried other devices. But will.

  • Hi Flo,

I disconnected the W10 PC and tried to reconnect, no connection. I released/renewed the IP lease still nothing. I restarted the PC and still no connection. The Clientless count has dropped by 1 even though the PC still shows in the clientless listing.

  • Hey Ian,

I was able to find an older thread where this behavior was discussed and confirmed (v17, disconnected device does not reconnect until appliance is rebooted).

Varun describes a method of marking the device as inactive, rather than disconnecting to avoid this issue. However, I agree that this information and expected behavior is not properly noted in our SFOS Help or Documentation, I will forward this request over to our team.

    Hope that helps,

  • For clientless users, the correct way to "log off" is not to use the Live User, Disconnect.  Instead you should go to the Clientless User, select them, and click Change Status.  This will make them inactive, and if you go back to Live User you will see they are not listed anymore.  To log them back in, click Change Status again.

If you have used the Disconnect button, you can cycle to Inactive and Active again to log them back in.
