Export UTM configuration and import into the new Sophos XG

Hello all,

As I am currently running the UTM Home Editon and have been for years, it was suggested to use the new Sophos XG.  I would like to take all of my current configurations from the UTM and import them into the XG.  Is there a way to perform this.  As I understand it, the XG will be the replacement for the UTM product, so it is based on some of the same code and parts of UTM are going to be used on the XG platform.  Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Scott.

  • Hi,

This is currently not possible. There is a migration tool for partner and business customers (https://community.sophos.com/products/xg-firewall/f/sophos-utm-to-xg-migration/102430/migrating-tool-from-sg-to-xg/380604) but some modules are not included.

Another point is:  As I understand it, the XG will be the replacement for the UTM product, so it is based on some of the same code and parts of UTM are going to be used on the XG platform.

We develop both platforms right now. There comes a feature release for UTM right now (UTM9.6) as well as XG (V17.5).

Those Platforms are quite different, so you cannot just take everything and parse it into XG. The handling and UI is different. XG is a "Next Gen Firewall" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Next-generation_firewall and UTM is a UTM Firewall. So basically they are different.

If you are happy with UTM, you could stay with UTM home and use the next feature releases. If you want to try out some different approach to protection, you can try out XG.

And to be honest, You should build up the XG rule set from scratch. Most of the UTM rules cannot be applied on XG because you switch from packet level to zone based level.
