How to set correctly a name for the device (sophos xg) instead of an IP for Captive Portal

Hi, Good day, i have choosen a device name for my sophos xg firewall (administration>Admin Settings>Host Name: sophos.cedes) but i can't ping to it, it doesnt work also when i go to https://sophos.cedes:4444 for the admin panel or https://sophos.cedes:8090 for cative portal but it works with the ip (192.168.110.3). Does anybody have any advice? thanks.

  • Your XG is a DNS server.  However when you set the hostname is does not automatically create a DNS entry for the hostname to an IP.  One reason is that the XG has multiple interfaces so it does not know which of its several IPs you want to use.

Assuming that your clients are getting DNS from your XG:  Go to Network, DNS, DNS Host Entry.  Create a new entry with the FQDN and IP you want to use.

For the bigger issue of using the device name rather than IP for captive portal, please see here:
