How to block web radio

I currently see a live connection running since early in the morning based on HTTP Resume Filetransfer. Investigating the destination IP address I found out it is web radio (http://94.130.253.194/). How can I block web radio?

- I don't want to block only this specific IP address

- I don't want to block HTTP Resume Filetransfer

- In the used web policy the category 'Entertainment' is not allowed, which includes 'non-news radio and television'

Any suggestions for additional settings?

  • I assume this would also have impact on youtube videos for example? This can't be blocked unfortunately.

  • Correct, that would block most of but not all.

You could try looking at the ports being used and block them, that will stop some access but only until they find another station.

The next thing to look at is QOS using applications and limiting the throughput to the lowest value allowed and adding exceptions for youtube etc.

This is theory only I haven't tried in practice.

Further poking in applications you could just click the deny, the must allow applications you would not select for the rule/policy.

  • Hi,

update. I created an application policy denying streaming media and did not select facebook video playback. I added it one of my firewall rules and tested audio streaming radio and facebook video. Facebook video continued and audio streaming failed. As soon as I removed the filter the audio streaming started to play.

    Something for you to try.
