Tracking down a bug - 1

Hi folks,

I have a couple of bugs to track down in v17.1.2, maybe some have been partly identified in other posts/threads.

Bug is to do with internet speed testing software.

The 3 sites/application involved are

www.speedof.me

www.speedtest.net

dslreport.

The only one that works through the XG successfully is speedof.me provided I don't try to add exceptions in the web.

www.speedtest.net fails with latency errors even when exceptions are set.

dslreport fails with proxy error and not supported range byte.

I created a firewall rule at the top, source LAN -> ANY -> ALLOW all services ->destination WAN -> ANY, no scanning, no IPS (disabled all DOS) only clientless group. This worked, but allowed all devices in the clientless group access to the internet with no additional security.

Next step, change WAN -> FQDN (speedtest.net), not good back to failing due to latency error.

So all this was run on my XG based on a quad core J1900 celeron running at 2ghz.

Thinking it might be a hardware issue where the CPU is just not fast enough I rebuilt my e3-1225 V5 3.3ghz. Installed a backup from the celeron system and tried again.

Speedtest.net still fails with the FQDN entry, but not open access version.

DSLRreport runs quite happily with the open firewall rule version on both machines.

Software setup

XG provides the DNS

Running IP4 and IPv6 (speedtest only uses IP4)

Clientless users currently 38, mix of IP4 and IPv6.

13 firewall rules

8gb of installed ram 6gb active

4 intel NICs 2 active

internet connection 50/20mbs

HTTPS and HTTP on some rules

mail scanning rule

I have run all the tests with a PC connected directly to the ISP modem without any issues.

I have run the tests through the XG a number of times in quick succession in the hope that the issue is a caching one, but no difference.

Your thought and suggestions on what is the likely cause of the failures, thank you?

Ian

I have posted about similar issues recently, but not this one.

A little bit of interesting information, using the e3-1225 XG, web pages load way faster, the GUI is more responsive, CPU load drops even when monitoring, the system load sits around 2 down from 3 and a bit.
