Issue when blocking websites

I'm having an issue when blocking websites in that the usual block page isn't displayed and in its place i get an error stating that the site can't be reached. When running an NSLookup against any sites which are blocked there appears to be no DNS entries for the blocked site. However when accessing any unblocked sites there is no issue.

I'm running XG 17.1.2

Has anyone else experienced this? If so how did you resolve this

Any help is greatly appreciated

  • Hi Kieran90,

What is the error message you see? Do you see any blocks in the awarrenhttp.log and awarrenhttp_access.log? If not, you might need to change the DNS servers in Network > DNS tab.

Run a tracert command on the affected system and show me the output.

    tracert unreachablewebsitename.com

    Thanks,

  • This only occurs when a site is blocked all other sites load as normal. I'm getting the usual error which occurs when you've entered an incorrect URL (Pictured below).

I ran a trace route to a blocked site and this fails with the error "Unable to resolve target system name" however when running a trace route to an unblocked site it works fine

  • Hi Pal,

    Good day!

This is normal in HTTPS website, not unless Sophos Certificate for browsers has been integrated to every browser we have but in HTTP sites the blocking page will appear normally.

    Warm Regards,

  • That doesn't happen when the certificate is not installed your normally presented with a security error. However I've resolved this; I was using a PiHole to block ads and pointing XG to the PiHole. After point XG directly to my ISP DNS everything works fine
