Gmail not working

Just recently install my Sophos XG Firewall. I opened Outlook which is set to use Gmail, and had numerous issues. In order to get e-mail to work, I had to disable the MTA rule. This is the message in Outlook:

And this is the rule in the firewall that I disabled:

Right now I have this rule disabled, so no e-mail scanning is occuring. What can I do to allow this rule to work with Gmail?

  • I’m curious about this as well as I ran into the same issue except I think I just had to disable MTA mode and it automatically removed that firewall rule. Right now I’m just running it it in the ‘Transparent Proxy’ mode which still scans all of my SMTPS and IMAPS. I haven’t been really able to find any good documentation on how the email scanning features work in Sophos XG. The manual and Knowledge Base documents here don’t really do a good job of explaining stuff for home users.

  • Hi,

I like others have not been able to get MTA to work successfully. I built a business rule for pops and imaps and imported the certificate into my MAC. For my wife's MAC that uses outlook I had to build user firewall rules that do not scan mail because I have not been able to Outlook to accept the certificate. When she uses MAC that works fine. I have tried scanning SMTPS for MAC mail but that doesn't work for me, so that is on a user rule.

  • I ended up disabling MTA, going back to legacy e-mail scanning. It looks like MTA requires a "private" e-mail server.
