Amazon AWS sites (kinesis, identity) mis-classified by web filter?

I've seen a lot of web requests blocked in my XG log for attempts to hit Amazon's AWS sites.  These appear to be categorized as "Personal Network Storage", which seems bizarre.

kinesis.*.amazonaws.com is data streaming, should be classified as "Internet Services" (McAfee's view) or perhaps "Video";

identity.*.amazonaws.com and idp.*.amazonaws.com are identity management (signle sign-on) and should be "Internet Services".

At present, I'm having to make manual exceptions for them and given how many firms use AWS, I'm sure I'm not the only one!

Sophos, how do we get you to reclassify those AWS services to a more appropriate web filter category?

  • Hi Jeff,

    this has been discussed many times in this and the UTM forums.

    Sophos use external sites to supply most the classification data, so any changes would have to be logged through Sophos Support.

    From memory the other answer that came from previous discussions is that your request is your view, not necessarily those of the classifying site. Yes, I am aware of what you posted the about McAfee classification of the site.
