Fan replacement for XG210

A bit of an odd request here, but an XG210 Rev 3 appliance that I'm putting in a home (yes, overkill).  Is it possible to replace the system fan, and if so recommendations on a compatible fan?  Given it's going in a home office, would really like the noise to be a a minimum.

  • This an answer I got from Noctua who make really quiet fans:

You could give the NF-A4x20 PWM a try, however, it is much weaker than the fan shown on your photo.

The device might actually need the additional power the original fan provides. It could also be that the device is checking the fan-speed during boot, claiming a fan error if the speed does not reach a certain level. We have also seen cases where devices checked if the power draw is within a certain range to determine if the fan is faulty, although I find it unlikely to see such a mechanism here.

  • None of them are within OEM range.  For example, some of them reduces air flow by almost 4.  You need 25 cfm.  7 or 8 is definetly too low.

Also, OEM fan is 28 mm thick.  I'm not sure 20 mm thick will work.

Power draw is around 6.5 watt. Noctua is @ around 2 watt.  Do not expect Noctua fan to do the same job. It will fail.

Noise level is the parameter you should check last.  Not first.

In order you need to check this:

    Size: 40 x 40 x 28

    Watt: 6.5

    Airflow: 25 CFM

    Feedback: PWM, 4 wires

Life:  OEM is 70,000 hours (low and chinese cheap),  good ones are above 100,000.  MIssion Critical are above 250,000 hours. HPe, IBM, et.c.

You are far more sensitive than I to find 51 db is very noisy.
