[BUG] XG v16/17 PPPOE doesn't endlessly tries to reconnect

Hi All,

i have a weird issue concerning clients with xDSL lignes, with a modem bridged and connected to wan port of the XG.

There are more and complains about internet failures (different clients, different DSL providers, different modems), and in most of the cases the pppoe Wan port status is "Disconnected".

Just by clikcing on "connect" connection goes up immediatly !

Is there a way to force the XG to retry enlessly to reconnect ?! (which should be a basic thing !!!!)

Thanks !

  • Just to keep the thread updated.

I received an email from Support overnight advising they have a hotfix for the following releases.

    17.5.MR12

    17.5.MR14

and a request to upgrade my customers units to this for the patch to be applied.

So I have responded to support, as the issue with this request should be obvious. But for those that don't see what I am

MR12 is removed from access, as MR13 is the currently recommended version.

MR14 is on manual download only, and already has noted issue with executable filtering, VPN client access and alike.

And there is no patch for the current stable release which is MR13.

  • Hi Gavin,

For what it is worth, mr14-1 has been released to fix some of the issues in the original mr-14.

  • Hello Ian,

Yes I know that MR14.1 has been released.

but support did not advise using MR14.1

Right at this moment, I think support need to advise which firmware version they intend to work on and debug regarding this issue, request all affected machines be upgraded / downgraded to this version and begin tracking. Suspend all hot fixes and work solely in that environment.

For any devices not capable of being upgraded / downgraded (due to other significant issues / corporate change policy / ect) they stay where they are, and just advise when an issue occurs for log and other investigations.

But for me this highlights some deficiencies I have been pointing at to Sophos for many years, inability to adequately document configurations for rebuild, inability to easily access live logs. When things are running smoothly in systems these can be determined as a low priority, nice to have. But when something like this comes along, they become a valuable diagnostic tool which is currently sadly lacking.

FYI. Have a look at www.autodoc.com

  • While the XG has some nice features one thing I really miss is the logs from the utm.
