Suggestions please

Hi

I am building a new machine with Sophos home and have read all sorts of challenges with UEFI making installation a nightmare.  I would really appreciate suggestions around which motherboard to use M-ITX or such to overcome this.

Thanks for helping

  • Hi guys,

I have an earlier version of that box running quad core celeron and it struggles with two ISP connections running 4mbs/400kbs on a good day and 14 firewall rules. I am also running a limited IPv6 configuration. By struggling I mean it is running around 32% CPU with only one active user and a couple of devices in power saving mode.

I was hoping this box would replace my e3- box when I connect to the NBN shortly on at least 50/20 (45/15).

I think your choice Ian is a slight overkill because it has a seperate display chip but otherwise it looks very good and I will I expect replace mine shortly with the newer low power version that you have posted.

The good thing about these boxes is they come with VGA ports.

  • Thanks Ian,

I just want power as my home connection is currently 100 / 2 and once FTTC HFC NBN hits will be 100 / 50

I have about 35 - 40 devices (4 users) hitting the firewall at any given time.

Currently an Meraki MX64 does the job OK

  • Hi Ian,

if you do a comparison with the Sophos XG hardware my current hardware should be an overkill. I have two users and about 20 devices, but most are in low power mode most of the time.

I was primarily looking to reduce the power consumption with the new box, around 10w.

  • Cool.

I have two kids that have about 4 devices each they hammer the network and a Wife who works from Home and Tele Commutes.

I think my dog has logins somewhere too... LOL

  • Hi,

Some of my post got lost. Only has a HDMI port, no VGA.

extra info, it is a dual core with hyper threading.

  • Hey Ian,

please post your results after the hardware and network upgrade are in place.

    Thank you
