Package install, which Linux OS is XG running on?

Hi, does anyone know which Linux OS XG runs on and how we can install 3rd party software on the device?

I'm trying to get an lcm-162 running on a UTM 220 hardware device using XG OS and would like to install the drivers / firmware for the LCD screen.

Has anyone had any success trying this?

Many thanks,

  • Hey Elliott.

Are you talking about Sophos UTM (Sophos XG) or SFOS (Sophos XG)?

Sophos UTM does have a package manager (rpm) and it's bases on Suse Linux, but it won't allow you to install any custom packages without voiding warranty and/or risking breaking your system. XG is a whole different beast and IFAIK doesn't even have a package manager.

Both of them are meant to not be tampered with. It would be weird to allow a security product to be tampered with, right?

  • Hi Giovani,

I meant the SFOS Sophos XG.

Ok, I'm only a home user, but I purchased a 220 UTM hardware device to try setup some enterprise stuff.

I suppose it does make sense to lock it down. I'll just go without the display. (Not that I'd look at much anyway)

Cheers for telling me about the package managers.
