Internet speed slow after few hours

Hi,

I noticed weird behaviour of my Sophos XG firewall (Home Edition 17.1.1 MR-1, installed directly on PC with intel i5 CPU and 8GB ram). My internet speed from ISP is 100Mbps, I will only get 100Mbps speed after I reboot the Sophos, but after using it for few hours (roughly around 2-3 hours) the speed drops to around 15-17Mbps. I tested it few times using the reboot methods, the results are the same. All my tests are without enabling any UTM services, means allow any to any connections & disable IPS, Web policies, Traffic Shaping and Application Control also using direct cable connection from my laptop to Sophos LAN interface. Any idea what could cause the speed drops?

Remarks:

1) Tested using other small router, I'm getting consistent 98-100Mbps speed.

2) I am using Intel PRO/1000MT dual port server adapter as my network card.

3) Set interface speed to 1000Mbps - Full duplex (MTU 1500) on both WAN & LAN.

  • Hi,

Check #4-#4.2 in my troubleshooting guide to get an insight. Monitor the System Graphs available under Reports > System Graphs section, and make a note if there is a spike in memory usage, interface usage or high CPU, during the time when this issue prevails.

    Thanks,

  • Hi,

Thank you for the reply. My CPU barely can go 5%, memory around 30% most of the time. But I can see dropped packets as shown in my screenshot which I am not really good in reading it. Also, I don't think that this issue cause by other devices because I use the same device like modem or even cables with different router and the result is consistent 90-100Mbps.

    Thanks,
