Where and how do I check where is my data going? I had 17gigs leave me today and all I did was game for 1.5 hours....

I have not uploaded anything to a cloud nor transferred any large data yet here I am with 15 gigs going out...how and where?  How do I check that?

I am just trying to understand a better way to operate this wall.

  • Pickle Rick,

First and foremost, your game must send out a lot of telemetry to constantly identify you location and actions in the game.  Each game does this differently depending on the engine used and the level of proficiency in their programmers.  This will create a decent upload value.

Anytime you are receiving in a lot packets in a video feed or in a huge amount of telemetry as in gaming (for identifying the locations and actions of all your opponents), your device must respond with a lot of acknowledgements as well as send out requests for data it needs but doesn't have.  This can help build that large upload value over a period of time.

Are you live streaming or recording your game in a third-part application?  Does your game have live streaming or recording built in?  Even if you're not live streaming or recording, the game or a third-party app could still be sending out video or game data to a buffer for various reasons (such as your viewpoint of a kill for the other player to see).  This can cause a high upload value quickly.

  • No I am not a streaming what rfcat_5f00_vk stated answered my question...basically it's the total amount of data transferred since the last restart and I did upload an image of my HD to the cloud last week so that would account for the large upload amount.   I just thought that the upload/download amount is slated per day and not per restart hence was my worry.

  • Hi Rick,

my apologies about removing the DMZ. it really isn't in the configuration.I should use my glasses more often though I don't like wearing then when working with computers.

  • Pickle Rick,

What Ian said is absolutely correct for some use cases but not for all.  The upload/download values are from the last moment that the Firewall Rule was created/activated.  You don't have to restart the firewall in order to restart the count.

but generally speaking, that statement applies to many users who set and forget the firewall.

  • Got it....I have never turned the firewall off I just turn portion of the items within the rule but never the whole rule...i.e...I might turn off AdBlocking or Content Blocking but the rule stays as is...so in this case I guess it's reboot based.  But thank you very much for the heads up!

  • version updates should also reset the values.
