all interfaces lose IP addresses

We have a few SG105's running XG that will boot up and have LAN/WLAN connectivity, and then after a few minutes drop all networking - all interfaces lose their IP addresses. I saw this happen once a few months ago but then couldn't reproduce it after a reboot. Now it has happened on two consecutive reboots while i'm connected via serial, and the customer reports it happening on multiple occasions recently too. On the third reboot when I was watching exactly what happened with the interfaces, it worked fine, although it did seem to take a long time to establish the WWAN connection.

When it boots there are IP addresses on lo and ipsec0, then eth0 and the wifi network come up a few minutes later. I'm not exactly sure what happens after that but the WWAN connection never establishes and then all IP addresses are stripped from all interfaces.

If I add an IP onto the LAN interface I can ping again.

The devices is running 17.0.6, although I think I first saw the problem on an earlier 17.0.x version

The WWAN interface is a USB 3G/4G adapter that presents as an Ethernet interface

"ip -4 addr" sometimes seemed to take a few seconds to run, almost like there is a HDD error or something. The SG105's of this vintage do have HDD's not SSD's, I think, but the XG lacks the smartmontools software so I can't tell for sure.

These devices are used as portable firewalls for when a team goes onsite, so they are started and shutdown fairly often.

Has anyone seen anything like this before?

thanks

James
