Sophos XG 105 locking

Hello guys.

I have a client with Sophos XG 105, using SFOS 17.0.8, your network has a maximum of 10 computers accessing the internet.
The equipment is locking randomly, forcing the customer to restart it, this happens during the day when the company is active or even at night when no device is on the internet.
Talking to a friend, who is also partner Sophos, he told me that Sophos XG 85 and 105, has performace problem with SFOS 17, because it is heavy, crashes the equipment, so I suggested downgrade to the SFOS 16 version.

Is this information correct?
Has anyone else gone through this?

Thank you !

  • Hi, thanks for the help.

So there is an open call that came to level 2 of Sophos, I was disappointed because the professional who answered the call, informed the customer that the equipment was scaled wrong, but it was not, I myself validated with the distributors.
It's an XG 105 on a network that has at most 10 computers accessing the internet during the day, it hangs, it just stops working, even at night and on weekends when there are no people using the internet.

Below the text of the professional that answered the case, as well as the Support ID:

    Support ID: #8192611

As discussed, here is the email I promised to send.

In short, the XG105 is simply undersized for the amount of traffic you have set to go through it; not by much, but enough so as to cause resource utilization issues. While Sales would be best positioned to suggest the better sized appliance, personally, I would suggest an XG115 at the very least, and an XG125 or XG135 if you can get those.

  • I was disappointed, because the support ends up passing to the cliner the impression that I (the reseller) sold the wrong product :(

But I did not sell it wrong, this client has at most 10 computers active on the internet during the day, there are days he has only 6 live users, before the client used Sophos UTM 9 with 2GB RAM, virtual on Vmware, always worked quietly , now with the XG 105, has these problems of locking the equipment, when it restarts, it already back consuming at least 60% of RAM, the face of the support even quoted the high consumption of the IPS, but suggested equipment exchange and the clerk does not want to do this, does not want to spend more money and rightly so because he bought a solution, believing that the same would meet.

I will try to support it with Sophos support.

  • Hi Mate,

May I help you providing screenshot on CPU and Memory usage?

    Warm Regards,

  • Hi,
Please read any topic and let me know if you can help me or give me any tips.
From what I understand, you work at Sophos, correct?

    I await your contact!

  • Did you open a case at Sophos Support ?

Your appliance seems to have a hardware failure if it crashes randomly without using 100% of the memory.

They should RMA your appliance like they did for mine.

  • Hi Ivanildo,

Sorry to hear about the continued issues you have been experiencing.

I will send you a PM for your contact information so that we can investigate this issue further.

    Regards,

  • I believe it is a case of RMA, the exchange for another XG 105 should resolve.
But as the customer is very dissatisfied with this model, he wants to perform the exchange of the same for an XG 115.

  • Sophos does not allow the exchange for an XG 115, even if it pays for the differea, what it recommends is the RMA process.

Well, on Sunday I received the hint of another reseller here in Brazil, to execute this command "set ips engine_update_mode restart"

I did this, so far the equipment has not locked anymore, it does 04 days without incident.

What did this command actually do?

  • Hi Mate,

    Good day!

IPS consume almost 55% of the appliance performance if applied for all concurrent users.

    Warm Regards,

  • Hello Friend,

55% is a very violent consumption, only for the IPS.
From what I understand, this "set ips engine_update_mode restart" command causes IPS to restart after the updates, instead of doing a reload.

    That's right ?
