Can´t send e-mails - authentication error

Hi,

I'm configuring a XG 115 V.17 (has the lastest firmware). I created rules in firewall for each type of traffic. At this moment, only mail and http/s is allowed.
I receive e-mail, but I can´t send (external e-mail servers).

Outook gives an error:

Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC1A) : 'Your server does not support the connection encryption type you have specified. Try changing the encryption method. Contact your mail server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP) for additional assistance.'

I thought it was something related with TLS/SSL, but even when I configure the mail client with SMPT, port 25, no authentication, it doesn´t work.

The firewall rule for outgoing e-mail had the work web policy applied. I removed it, but the issue remained.

Best regards

  • Hi.

I disabled rule nº 5, and it works, because business rule is configured.

If i accept the sophos certificate, I can send e-mails.

But I don´t want to install any certificate. I just want to send e-mail.

Something is filtering the e-mail and forcing it to use the XG certificate.

How do I disable that behavior ?

  • Hi,

I deleted all rules and created a new one, allowing all traffic in-out.

    It's working smtp now.

There is something weird I don«t understand.

When i configure a firewall I like to be strict and granular in rules.

    I created a rule permitting DNS in-out and http/s in/out.

I deleted the DNS rule because I found it suspicious that no traffic was on the DNS rule, and name resolution continued to work.

Maybe smtp was not working because I had a specific rule for it. Strange.

  • If you do not want to see the certificate error message in Outlook, you need to edit the business rule and uncheck the IMAPS and POP3S scan.

  • Hi,

The top rule of picture above is auto-created by Sophos when you use Email Protection feature in MTA mode. It will scan traffic SMTP/S and then if you generate SMTP traffic from client, it will be scaned and maybe break connect.
