System stuck on checking file system

My system had some downtime because of a power outage, now when i try and turn it on, it talks about doing some kind of file system check, takes seconds on "config" and "signatures" but takes forever on "report partition", then after a while the screen goes blank and i need to hit the power button to get it to pop up again. it is installed on a 750gb drive so is it just a case of waiting? if so for how long as it's still stuck after 12 hours (I left it overnight)

I really need it up asap, is there any way to force it to skip the file system check?

  • Hi Harry,

sounds bad. Do you have a recent backup and copy of the XG software, it will be quicker to perform fresh install. Also you will find out if the disk is damaged.

  • No and no to be honest, i spend most of my time at school so can't babysit the machine much. Is there any way to recover the configs?, then i can do a fresh install onto an ssd that i've got hanging around

  • You could take the disk out and run a check disk. If you can't get the XG started then you can't access the file system to recover a config.

In future you need to ensure you get a a back up at least weekly emailed to you.

The machine does not need babysitting, just a good reliable power supply, try for a small UPS just to handle the surges.

How complex were your firewall rules that would take you so long to rebuild the XG from scratch?
