When ISP modem in router mode - whats the best setup for XG WAN?

Hi all - we are new to Sophos XG firewalls. We have a client that has a vodafone vDSL router that when put it in bridge mode, the Sophos XG won't connect to it for some reason. It seems we can only retain internet connectivity if the Vodafone device is left in router mode.

Now we have the situation where the XG WAN interface is getting a private internal IP address from the router and we are unable to VPN to the XG modem or access the XG GUI remotely.

In this situation - is there any way to get the providers public IP on the XG WAN interface or if not, do we have to forward all ports on the vodafone router to the XG WAN (private) IP address for the likes of SSL VPN and remote GUI access etc to work?

Thanks in advance

Gerry

    Hello Gerry,

You just need to port forward 8443 to the XG from the Vodafone router. This will allows you to connect via SSL VPN and from there you should be able to access the WebAdmin.

Hi Sam - thanks for the response and suggestion. Are there any other things that one would have to be aware of e.g. if the client wanted to put in a secondary broadband line for failover if primary goes down - would this setup work?
