Hi guys,
First of all, I wanted to say I am loving my home XG firewall, it is amazing and is far better than other opensource options out there IMO.
However, I have a question regarding application filtering and their risk ratings. There are a number of normal (or what I'd consider low risk) apps that are categorised as being high risk.
For example, Firefox Update is high, and is blocked in many of the default filters. To me this is a bit silly that we are placing more importance on saving bandwidth compared to the greater risk of having an out of date browser.
Also common apps like Gtalk (Google Hangouts), etc, are deemed high risk. This to me is excessive and should be considered low risk.
The bigger issue I have is that apps like Gtalk are categorised under multple characteristics, so for example Gtalk is labelled as a messenger app but also a tunnel app, etc. This means Gtalk appears in multiple policies and becomes extremely annoying to remove from policy without scrolling through pages and pages of other much higher risk apps.
Can I suggest that from the "Edit Application Filter Policy Rules" page, a filter can be applied to show only particular apps, and then these can be individually or completely selected?
If I try and filter on say all high risk VPN apps, then click the "Select All" radio, it appears to select ALL apps, regardless of the current filter.
Anyway, keep up the great work, i'm looking forward to seeing what new things are coming in the next release!
Cheers,
Ben
