Is XG and SG hardware no longer identical?

The information released by Sophos here https://news.sophos.com/en-us/2015/11/09/xg-firewall-faq/ is that XG and SG hardware is identical, except that XG hardware has XG OS on it (and the cosmetic differences).

Our supplier recently asked why we were buying SG hardware and installing XG on it, rather than XG hardware. Our information was that the hardware is the same, but the cost of SG is significantly cheaper. The supplier says that the XG hardware is actually different, and that we should be buying XG.

Is there an official document that describes the situation?

Thanks

James

  • Hi,

The hardware should be identical. There are several cosmetic changes and personally would not recommend to buy SG hardware for the purpose of run SFOS on it.

You should get in touch with your reseller to get a official information.

    Cheers
