Sophos filtering YouTube content using Web browsers different to Chrome

Hi community,

Today I'm having a strange situation where I can't access some YouTube videos when I'm using a web browser differents to Google Chrome when the allow all for app or web filter on the FW rule is enable. Once the app and web filter fields are set with none, I can access those videos.

When I use other browser (mozilla, edge, explorer, etc.) once I try to access an URL from one video that I already see in Chrome it appears a message on the YouTube screen saying "This video is restricted. Try to access with a Google Apps account."

Doing little more tests, I found that in the YouTube Channel from the video that I'm facing issues, that video and some others doesn't appear at all in the channel using browsers differents from Chrome.

Any idea where might the issue be? What is happening?

Rgds.

  • If there is a problem with Chrome versus other browsers, it could be due to the QUIC protocol.  Look here on how to block.  This will be done with a single checkbox in 17.1

If you have a problem with videos being blocked when you think they should not be, this might be due to YouTube Restricted Mode.
Google/Bing/Yahoo SafeSearch protects you from adult content in search results.
YouTube (owned by Google) Restricted Mode protects you from adult content in search results.

In v17.0 the XG enforces Restricted Mode whenever it enforces SafeSearch.  Since both features are about blocking adult content, we put them together.
However we've heard feedback from users that Google is being... overly protective when it comes to restricting videos.  On the roadmap (not sure when) we will be separating the SafeSearch and Restricted Mode features.
