multiple networks routing to gateway on one LAN

Hello

I have an XG125 set up with three LAN networks and one WAN interface on the XG.

The nature of the business is that there is also another router on one of the LAN networks, lets call it LAN1, that connects to a private network for the master company that this is a franchisee for.

previously we had a Microtik router connecting the three networks and a Cisco 800 router handling the internet, all worked well. I replaced both units with the XG and gave the LAN1 interface the IP addresses of both the Cisco and the Microtik via an alias.

Now all three LANs can see the internet happily and they can see each other but LAN2 and LAN3 can't route via the second router.

I have a static route set up to send all traffic destined for the private network to go via the second router and that works fine for LAN1. on LAN2 and LAN3 i can ping the second router but if i try to traceroute to a destination on the private network i get the XGs interface as the first hop and then everything is dropped, i don't even get the second router.

This is doing my head in.
