XG/SG and NICs in Hyper-V

Hi,

I setup a virtual XG on Hyper-V (Windows Server 2016) using 3 NW cards (Management, Internal, Internet).

How do I determine, which NIC in XG is which NIC in hyper-v? Are port 1-3 in XG in same sort order as given in Hyper-V VM Setup?

It doesn't seem to be but I am unable to determine?

  • In general, the virtual NICs are ordered top-to-bottom in the HV virtual BIOS in the order in which they were added to the VM.
They appear in the UTM and XG installation dialogs in the same order: Port1 is the topmost-listed NIC in the HV VM properties, Port2 is the next-lower NIC, and so on.
Your management NIC should not be included in the VM setup at all, since it should not be bound to the virtual switch.

Have a read in my TechNet article on considerations and deployment options for edge-deployed firewalls. It's focused on ISA Server and TMG (both history now), but many of the concepts apply to other virtualized firewalls, as well.
