Google now fails to connect after some XG updates last night

Hi

Last night my time (3/4 March 2018) a new update of something was loaded into my XG. The update caused all connections to www.google.com.xx to fail, unable to establish a secure connection.

I do not have https scanning enabled in any rule.

Devices affected

1/. W10

2/. Mac book

3/. mac mini

browsers affected

1/. IE

2/. Safari

3/. FF

What has been done to prove this issue is XG only.

1/. connected the MAC book and mac mini via a 4g hotspot, google connected

2/. connected the mac book pro via the UTM, google connected.

3/. disabled all IPS functions, including spoof, ARP hardening etc, google still failed to connect.

4/. reviewed certificates on mac mini and mac book, still failed to connect.

5/. restarted mac mini and mac book no improvement.

6/. powered on W10 PC, still no connection.

7/. changed a number of rules on the XG, no improvement.

8/. restored XG from daily backup, no improvement.

What gives?

Ian

  • Good point IAN. I am not able to help as HTTPS scanning is enabled on all XG I managed.

Take note that new malware are hiding themselves under encrypted traffic. I guess the IPS/AV signature changed something.

Please update us if you find something interesting.

  • Hi Luk,

it is only google that is affected. Something breaks the connection or causes the browser to think it has security break in the communications.

  • More experimentation.

I disabled IPv6 on the LAN interface, rules etc and google now connects and searches.

So what does the XG do to probably an IP4 connection at setup that changes to preferred IPv6?
