What is the benefit of Captive portal ?

hello guys,

I had one basic question

What is the benefit i can get by using the Captive portal ( User based login ), as compared to IP or MAC based authentication?

    Kandarp,

    captive portal, compared to IP and MAC, can provide authentication by username, so you can have multiple users connected to the same IP/MAC and have different firewall rules/filters. Also you will have reports per user and not per IP/MAC.
