No IPv6 is displayed on the WAN.

Hello,

I've been trying to get my IPv6 up and running on the WAN side for two weeks.
My ISP sends with an IPv4 and IPv6, but in my connections I only see the IPv4, the IPv6 is empty. What do I have to activate in the firewall to get the IPv6 from my ISP.

best regards
Christos

Hallo,

Christos

  • Hello Christos,

I have no idea how your ISP is delivering the service to you.  My ISP delivers IPv4 & IPv6 via DHCP.  While getting the IPv4 connection was simple, I just selected DHCP under Configure -> Network -> Interfaces, my IPv6 connection would only work if I selected:  DHCP -> Manual -> DHCP Only.  IPv6 doesn't work for me if I select Auto.

I've been running this set-up for about a month.  My IPv6 address has changed once during this time and the XG automatically updated when it did.

  • Hello Casual_User,

if I do according to your instructions on the WAN, he says with "You must enter a valid IP for Gateway IP" what have you entered?

I get my IPv6 and Ipv4 via DHCP from my ISP.

    Thanks for your help

  • The way I got it working was a bit chicken and egg.  I had set it up to connect Automatically.  While this did not connect, I looked at Configure -> Network -> WAN Link Manager.  The link-local address of my ISP was provided there.  I copied it, and went back to Configure -> Network -> Interfaces and entered that as the Gateway IP for my ISP for the manual configuration.

That is the only way I could get an IPv6 connection.  Perhaps this is a limitation of the way my ISP has things setup.

If I connected a Win10 laptop directly to the ISP gateway, the laptop connected automatically without issue (bypassing the XG).  That is another way I could have found out the link-local address of the ISP gateway.

  • Hi,

on your network interface you need to provide a gateway name for the IPv6 if you are using DHCP to obtain your address. The XG is not the most reliable of IPv6 devices which hopefully will be fixed/upgraded in v17.1.

Also the XG treats IPv6 as a seperate firewall for most functions, not all.

  • thanks for your answer.

Under "WAN Link Manager" I only get a red link at IPv6.

    ,

can I use any IPv6 address (local) or does it have to be one of my ISP?

  • Hi,

the address should be provided by your ISP. I find that I have to open and save my external link before the IPv6 details will update. Very frustrating.

  • My problem is, no matter where I look, I don't find any IPv6 looks like my ISP doesn't send any, but that can't be, because I connect my Fritzbox is displayed with the IPv6 of ISP. Where can I check if I still get an IPv6?
