Hi,
following on from a suggestion Micheal Dunn made about not using the any for a service, I started to change services in various rules.
First attempt failed miserably and I had to restore from a backup, good, well not quite, the MACs all now fail to access the internet for the APP store.
So, following on from a suggestion of Flo's I disabled the match user function on my Apple rule, fail.
So off to tighten up some rules, created a new service for my weather station, good, that worked. Found out why the mail tightening did not work, wrong service definitions.
Something broke in the all the general rules as part of changing the mail security, so another restore was required, then things went downhill. The XG would not restart even though the restore showed 100% complete. After a number of attempts at restarts, gave up and went to bed thinking I had a dead disk and an hour or twos work today.
Setup the XG with a monitor to see what was happening, the XG was starting safe mode and would not boot to operation mode. So a factory reset followed in the hope that would fix the disk which it did. Again another restore after the initial configuration. The AP would not activate.
Added another AP so I could delete the first without losing my configuration. That also would not activate even after two XG restarts.
Then I recalled some past issues I had had and others had had with APs not activating, so I changed the 5ghz channel to be 20mhz, manual channel selection and bingo the AP activated. So deleted the first AP, put it back then went through the same process with the 5ghz channel and it activated on which i deleted the second AP. The AP is now running both 2.4ghz and 5ghz channels as 40 and 80mhz, dynamic channel allocation and all is good as far as WIFI goes.
Apple store update has failed on ipad and all MACs. I an unable to identify any traffic in the logviewer showing failed access. I have tried disabling all features of the iPS, made no difference.
So, there is the story of a fun filled Sunday morning, so my wife can have her internet access (facebook and mail) working.
Ian
