Sophos XG 85 Hardware Appliance with Software Home License

Hi,

I read couple of post with question "It is possible to install Home License to Sophos Hardware Appliance?".

Yes it is possible ! If anyone is still interested I can write a tutorial to take you through in the most painless way:)

If anyone asking a question why to do it, because if One buy a Hardware Appliance for Home use only and his license is expired, If One like me, sometimes would like to show his students how works the best UTM on the market - connect them in network, show them how VPN works etc.. If anyone would use the potential of Sophos UTM Home License on Physical Hardware only for Home and education.

    Hi,

    On the other post You write that you have Sophos XG 105 Hardware Appliance. So what problems are you getting with the installation process?

    The main issues on Sophos XG 85 are:

    1. 8GB of SSD - The minimum required amount for Software Appliance is 10GB.

    2. Sophos XG 85 don't have any VGA port so everything must be done by COM port.

    3. There are some problems with erasing whole SSD drive without any graphic interface even with dd command.

     

    So please send me issues that have with installation proces than maybe I can help.

    Hi Patryk,

    I try also to install the home edition on a xg85w appliance with no success. I get en error says its not possible tho install the software version on a appliance.

    I read a lot about wipe te partition on the appliance to install the home edition. I have experiance with access on the serial port, but i dont know how to wipe the 8gb ssd on the xg85w.

    Any ideas?
